When you are carrying all your worldly possessions on your back, it soon incentives you on selecting only the lightest, compact, useful outdoor gear when hiking or cycling up a mountain.

The relatively new invention of microfiber towels means that bulky, heavy and hard to dry travel towel are now a thing of the past. With microfiber towels super absorbent characteristics and their very quick drying times, they make an ideal piece of outdoor hiking gear to buy. The luxuriant feel of the microfiber towel provides some much needed comfort for the discriminating travel, outdoor and watersports enthusiast. The toughness of microfiber towels make them great for withstanding the rigors of outdoor life.

Feature of Microfiber towels

Due to the fine Microfiber weave in the towels they dry faster than regular towels. The microfibre towel fabric has enhanced capillary action, meaning most would absorb up to 5 times its weight while still wicking away moisture and drying you quickly. This same characteristic works in both ways, where as soon as a region of the micro towel dries, it wicks moisture from other damp parts thus speeding up its drying time. As every hiker knows a damp towel is a heavy towel due to the water.

Features to look out for when buying a microfiber towel are:

Microfiber Towel Carrying Bag - Most microfiber travel towel for hiking come with a handy carrying bag, these bags have a built in mesh, allowing faster drying time. Some of these Microfiber towel bags have a popper system allowing you to attach a damp microfiber towel to the outside of your rucksack.

Cleaning Microfiber Towel  - Most microfiber towels do not require any special cleaning requirements, just put in the wash as with any other clothes.

Size of Microfiber Towel - Choose a size of microfiber towel suitable for your needs

Microfiber towels are great for when you are short on space or you are looking for ultra light weight. If they do get too wet they are easy to squeeze the excess water out and then dry as normal.

Thanks Drwibble. I may have never known. I'm sure I could use one of these sometime. Great post! Let's be careful out there!

When I went backpacking around Europe for a month, I had a conventional towel but found that if you were not careful in drying it thoroughly it began to quickly stink. So, when I came across these microfiber towels I purchased one. All, I do is lie it across one of my tent guy ropes when there is a gentle breeze and it drys quickly, or just hook the microfiber bag on my pannier rack.
